Music: An Important Part of This Business

How Wag N’ Wash Uses Music to Create a Tail-Wagging Customer Experience

Custom Channels music plays in all types of businesses — from restaurants and retail stores to dental offices, hotels, and coffee shops. But one of our favorite stories comes from a unique setting where both people and pets are customers: Wag N’ Wash® Natural Food & Bakery.

With franchise locations across the country, Wag N’ Wash uses Custom Channels’ ReMix music and messaging service to create the perfect environment for pet owners and their four-legged companions. We spoke with Christopher Stahl, Operations Support at Wag N’ Wash, about how music helps shape their brand’s upbeat and welcoming atmosphere.

Q&A with Christopher Stahl, Operations Support at Wag N’ Wash

CC: Tell us about your business.

CS: At Wag N’ Wash® Natural Food and Bakery, we provide everything pet owners need to give their dogs a bathing experience fit for royalty. Our self-service wash stations are waist-high, comfortable, and equipped with handheld sprayers that make the job easy. We also offer our own line of gentle, pH-balanced shampoos formulated just for pets. Plus, we have a pet bakery featuring Remo’s Gourmet Treats™ — handmade biscuits crafted from natural, high-quality ingredients with no chemicals or preservatives.

CC: Why is music important to Wag N’ Wash?

CS: Every dog deserves a spa day once in a while! Washing and grooming take time, and great music helps that time fly by. Our goal is to make each visit enjoyable for both the customer and their pet. Upbeat, fun music adds to the positive, playful energy that makes Wag N’ Wash a place people love to visit.

CC: Who is the music for — customers, employees, or pets?

CS: It’s for everyone — guests, their pets, and our team. Music sets the tone for the experience. It needs to be bright and energetic to make guests feel welcome but also calm enough not to startle any dogs. It’s a careful balance that helps create a relaxed, happy environment.

CC: How do employees feel about the music?

CS: Our staff loves being part of the process. They’re in the store all day, so their input is important. Getting feedback from employees about what they enjoy helps keep the atmosphere positive and motivated. That’s one of the great things about ReMix — we can easily adjust playlists to keep things fresh while staying on-brand.

CC: What other music options did you try before Custom Channels?

CS: We used iPods for a while, but the playlists became repetitive. We also tried other streaming services, but the station quality wasn’t great, and we couldn’t customize the listening experience. With Custom Channels, the quality is better, and we can fully personalize what plays in every location.

CC: You also use Custom Channels Messaging. How does that help?

CS: Our self-wash customers usually spend an hour or more in the facility. That’s a perfect opportunity to share messages about our products, loyalty programs, and community events. Between songs, we run short, friendly announcements about promotions, adoption fairs, and clinics. Since using in-store messaging, we’ve seen a noticeable increase in sign-ups and engagement. It’s a fun and effective way to communicate while guests are literally a captive audience.

CC: What has your experience been like working with Custom Channels?

CS: It’s been great. Our contact at Custom Channels is always quick to respond and super helpful. They’ve made it easy to get new franchisees set up with customized audio solutions so they don’t have to worry about music or licensing. It’s all taken care of, which is one less thing for owners to manage.

CC: How would you describe the sound of Wag N’ Wash?

CS: Bright, fun, and full of energy! We love 70s–90s rock and roll — anything upbeat that keeps tails wagging and spirits high. The music should make our guests smile and their pets feel comfortable.

Why Music Matters for Pet Businesses
